Race Summary:

  • Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) won the 2024 PT Grand Prix of Thailand, held in wet conditions
  • The reigning Champion made a statement performance, overcoming intense challenges from Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) and Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) to reduce the Championship gap to just 17 points
  • The weather played a pivotal role, and Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) was caught out during the sighting lap in the wet conditions; he made it back to start the warm-up lapp from pit-lane
  • Jorge Martin made a rocket start to take the lead into Turn 1, with Bagnaia slotting into second and Marc Marquez moving up to third
  • After Martin made a mistake on Lap 5, running wide at Turn 3, Bagnaia inherited the lead, with Marquez now hunting down the front two
  • Marc Marquez was pushing hard to regain the lead from Bagnaia. On Lap 14, Marquez made a crucial mistake at Turn 8, sliding off and crashing out of the race, promoting Martin into second
  • Bagnaia stretched his lead to nearly three seconds by the end, securing his first-ever wet weather MotoGP™ win
  • Pedro Acosta, made a mistake and dropped to 8th in the early stages, fought his way past Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) to secure the final podium spot
  • Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) finish fourth, just ahead of Jack Miller, who had a tough fight with Acosta. Binder followed in sixth, with Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) crossing the line in seventh
  • Johann Zarco (CASTROL Honda LCR) secured Honda’s best result of the season so far, finishing in eighth. Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) and Alex Marquez rounded out the top 10, with Marc Marquez finishing in 11th after restarting following his earlier crash ahead of Honda riders Luca Marini and Takaaki Nakagami
  • Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing) and Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) both crashed; Bastianini restarted to finish 14th, ahead of Joan Mir who took the final point
  • Fabio Quartararo crashed out of 4th place in the early lap after contact with Morbidelli who was given a long lap penalty; Quartararo managed to restart to finish 16th
  • Other crashers: Marco Bezzecchi, Raul Fernandez, Augusto Fernandez, Alex Rins and wild-card Lorenzo Savadori
