2024 – MotoGP™ – Rd 17 – Sprint – Australia – 19th October

Race Summary:

  • Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) extended his Championship lead with a dominant win in the Tissot Sprint
  • Martin started from pole and set a relentless pace, crossing the finish line 1.520 seconds ahead of Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™), who battled back from a tough start to finish in second
  • Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) rounded out the podium after a fantastic ride from 10th on the grid
  • This victory increases his Championship Martin’s lead to 16 points over Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), who finished in fourth.
  • Marc Marquez had a difficult start, dropping to eighth after running wide at Turn 1; the eight-time World Champion then fought his way back through the field
  • Francesco Bagnaia was unable to match the pace of the top three after losing a position to Marquez on Lap 8
  • Marco Bezzecchi (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) and Maverick Viñales were involved in a collision at Turn 1 on Lap 12. Both riders slid off into the gravel. Viñales was declared fit after the crash, but Bezzecchi was undergoing medical checks. The incident is under investigation, with a hearing to follow upon Bezzecchi’s return.
  • Franco Morbidelli secured a fifth place, while Raul Fernandez(Trackhouse Racing) delivered his best Sprint result in sixth. Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) crossed the line in 5th, but was later demoted to seventh due to an eight-second penalty for running lower-than-recommended tyre pressures
  • Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) crashed on Lap 8, while Johann Zarco (CASTROL Honda LCR) and Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) also slid off but were both unharmed.
