Race Summary:

  • The Motul Grand Prix of Japan delivered a thrilling finish as Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) held firm under pressure from Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing)
  • With the win, Bagnaia reduces the Championship gap to just 10 points
  • Francesco Bagnaia got off to a solid start but had to fight off Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) who tried to seize the lead at the start. Bagnaia eventually managed to control the pace, after Acosta’s crash out of contention on the third lap
  • Jorge Martin, starting from P11, charge through the field, finishing second
  • Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) came home in third, keeping Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) at bay despite intense pressure
  • Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) held fifth for much of the race, but lost out to Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing) in the last few laps
  • Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) and Joan Mir (Repsol Honda Team) were involved in an early incident which led to both riders retiring from the race. Marquez received a Long Lap Penalty for his part in the clash, which he will serve at the next race

 

Comments:

  • At the age of 20 years 133 days old Acosta is the third youngest rider to claim a premier-class pole, after Fabio Quartararo and Marc Marquez
  • 13th successive MotoGP win for Ducati
