2024 – MotoGP™ – Rd 16 – Sprint – Japan – 5th October

Race Summary:

  • Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) claimed victory in the Tissot Sprint at the Motul Grand Prix of Japan, cutting the gap to Championship leader Jorge Martin(Prima Pramac Racing) down to just 15 points
  • Francesco Bagnaia had a less-than-ideal start but recovered quickly, moving up to the front after some aggressive racing, then inherited the lead when Pedro Acosta  crashed
  • Enea Bastianini battled side-by-side with Marquez and holding onto second place after some close racing, including a crucial moment when he managed to squeeze past Marquez late in the race
  • Marc Marquez too the final step on the podium, as the top three were covered by just 0.349 seconds
  • Jorge Martin, the Championship leader, battled through the field from 11th place on the grid finishing fourth
  • In a dramatic end to the Sprint, Takaaki Nakagami (IDEMITSU Honda LCR) suffered some heartbreak as Johann Zarco (CASTROL Honda LCR) made contact with him, ending Nakagami’s race prematurely. Zarco was given a Long Lap penalty for the incident after earlier contact with Joan Mir (Repsol Honda Team)
