• Valentino Rossi emerges victorious in a treacherous wet race at Estoril, with the wind and lashing rain; topping the podium just as he had done at the first race of the season at Suzuka in wet conditions

• With three laps remaining it looked like Sete Gibernau was about to deliver a first ever win for the Suzuki GSV-R; with a lead of more than 3 seconds he buckled under the pressure, with his day ending in the gravel trap
