2024 MotoGP™ – Rd 2 – Race – Portugal – Algarve – 24th March
Race Summary:
- Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) won the race, leading from start to finish, his first MotoGP Race victory of the season and taking the Championship lead
- Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) closely chased Martin but suffered a technical issue on the last lap, resulting in a crash
- Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) secured second place, his first podium of the year
- Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech 3) made history by becoming the third-youngest premier class podium finisher
- Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) and Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) collided with a few laps to go, both riders crashing out. The FIM MotoGP™ Stewards deemed it a racing incident.
Comments:
- At the age of 19 years 304 days, Acosta becomes the third youngest premier-class podium finisher, after Randy Mamola (19 years 261 days – Finland 1979) and Eduardo Salatino (19 years 274 days – Argentina 1962)
- With Acosta ahead of Brad Binder and Jack Miller, this is the first time there are three KTM machines in the top five in a MotoGP™ race
- Eleventh successive MotoGP win for Ducati
